Tranquil Plains - As always, I was out before the sun rose and the great plains lay still and tranquil. A twilight powder blue hue echoed across the landscape and when I saw this giraffe mum and baby, it again all felt like a dream (Amboseli, Kenya).
Follow Mum - Each day the elephants make the journey across the dry lakebed to reach the freshwater springs at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Journeying back to their feeding grounds, all this little newborn elephant knows is to 'follow mum' (Amboseli, Kenya).
Baby Desert Elie - In the soft glow, at the end of another African day, a baby desert elephant trails behind its mother. Although the conditions seem tough, this little one's mother knows exactly where to find water and food and the little elie's future is bright (Hoanib River, Namibia Skeleton Coast).
Giraffe Journey - A journey of giraffe cross the dry lakebed of Amboseli in Kenya. To get this photo I stood on top of the roof of my car. In the background you can just make out the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.
I Dream of Africa - What would Africa be without her great plains? I have spent a lot of time on these grassy prairies and occasionally they allow me to capture a photograph that reminds me, that even after all these years, I (still) dream of Africa.
Elephant Rays - There is perhaps no better way to end a day in Africa, than with an elephant.
Giraffe in the Clouds - A Maasai giraffe dwarfed under a big African sky, full of puffy clouds (Amboseli, Kenya).
Buffalo in Blue - A herd of shy buffalo stare back at me before disappearing into a thick forest on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Magical Forest - A painterly portrayal of the Zambezi's magical forest.
Serengeti Migration - Here you see the great migration as it passes through the Acacia woodlands found in the southern reaches of Tanzania's Serengeti ecosystem.
The Enchanted Forest - Through a window in the forest a lone elephant bull reaches for leaves. A flock of starlings alight and the moment is born (Zambezi Valley).
Forest Elephant - My safari to the Congo Basin was all about getting this one frame of a forest elephant in the wild tropical jungle.
Forest of my Dreams - We woke up early to reach this forest in the golden glow of dawn. A huge herd of Cape buffalo transformed the scene into the forest of my dreams (Ruaha, Tanzania).
Desert and Dust - In a faraway wilderness, an ancient and desolate land, the oldest desert in the world meets the Atlantic coastline. Here, along Namibia's Skeleton Coast you find a miracle in the form of desert-adapted elephants. This bull not only survives in these harsh conditions but relishes the desert and dust (Hoanib River, Namibia Skeleton Coast).
Serengeti Elephant - An elephant on the great plains of East Africa lifts its trunk to smell the rain, carried on the winds of an approaching storm at sunset (Serengeti National Park, Tanzania).
Hoanib Survivor - Penetrating Namibia's Skeleton Coast is the Hoanib River. An artery of life that all of life clings to, including this oryx - perhaps the hardiest of desert dwellers.
Zambezi Leopard - It had been a quiet morning in the Zambezi Valley of Zambia. When we rounded a bend in the road our guide spotted this leopard, sitting in the perfect spot, as if just waiting for us.
Zambezi Buffalo - A herd of buffalo peer back at me from within a forest on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Ellies in Gold - A breeding herd of elephant move through a forest in the dry season. Dust and filtered light create this magical scene (Zambezi Valley).
Single Mother - A mother elephant and her two offspring journey through the desolate Hoanib Valley of Namibia's remote Kunene region.
Damara Ostrich - There had been uncharacteristic rains in Namibia's Damaraland. Green grass and orange rocks provide a stunning backdrop for the world's largest bird.
Elephants and Egrets - A herd of elephant cross the savannah at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. As always, egrets are in close attendance, hawking insects disturbed by the elephants.
Forest Rhino - A critically endangered black rhino moves through a Fever Tree forest in near silence (secret location in Kenya).
Cheetah Plain - On the great plains of East Africa a cheetah scans for prey (Masai Mara, Kenya).
Elephant Forest - Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park is as wild as it gets and here you see a lone elephant bull enjoying a meal of pods from an Albida tree in a forest clearing and in the beautiful evening light.
A Misty Morning - On an especially beautiful and misty morning, in Zambia's Kafue National Park, a lechwe pauses to stare at me. The sublime light of dawn, combined with the rising steam, made me feel like I wanted to be nowhere else on earth.
Pink Enigma - Flamingos are perhaps Africa's greatest enigma. Dressed pretty and in pink, these birds inhabit the most inhospitable environments. Moving between Africa's soda lakes at night, you are never quite sure where they will appear. Dazzling, dancing, shy, elusive, colourful and aloof - a marvelous mystery. Photographed here passing over Lake Logipi (northern Kenya).
Flamingos in Formation - Pure poetry in motion, a flamingo flock in formation glides over one of Africa's most inhospitable environments - a place they call home (Lake Logipi, northern Kenya).
